One to Watch – Sale

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 1
This Fastnet Rock filly won by nine lengths at Sale on Wednesday and booked her ticket to the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas, assuming owner Phil Sly decides to pay the late entry fee as she was not among original entries.

Lumosty as a yearlingThe Robert Smerdon trained Lumosty was quite clearly a class above in the 1423 metre maiden, quickly putting her rivals to the sword and bolting away to win in a breeze.

Stakes-placed at her only three previous runs, Lumosty was scratched from the Group III MRC Guineas Prelude on Sunday in favour of the easier assignment, but on the strength of this win may well have given the harder race a big nudge.

"The form around her is really encouraging going into the better fillies' races," said Robert Smerdon.

"We've had a few issues holding her up with the bar plates going on but I think that's only temporary and we're on top of that now."

A $185,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Flemington Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft, Lumosty runs for Phil Sly and Katsumi Yoshida, who enjoyed much success with the mighty Fastnet Rock filly Mosheen, who won four Group I events including the VRC Oaks by nine lengths.

Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Lumosty is also entered for the Oaks and is the first foal of Irish Group III winner Luminous Eyes (IRE), who comes from the family of champion racehorse Pilsudski and Group I winners Youmzain and Creachadoir.

Luminous Eyes has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock and will foal again to the champion sire this spring.
