Ones to Watch – Echuca

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 22
Group I trainer Danny O'Brien produced a couple of blue-blooded three year-old winners at Echuca on Monday that jumped out on pedigree as 'Ones to Watch'.

Themogenic as a yearlingTaking out the first event, a maiden over 1618 metres was Northern Meteor colt Thermogenic, a half-brother to Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Nechita.

Sent out favourite, he improved sharply on his unplaced debut when slowly away at Bendigo earlier this month to win by a neck.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Edinglassie Stud draft, Thermogenic was bred by Jason Abrahams and is the third winner from three to race from metro winning Peintre Celebre (USA) mare Artistique, a half-sister to stakes-winner Chiming Lass.

Saluting two races later was the Waikato Stud homebred Simply You, the latest winner for O'Brien's former top line Group I winning sprinter Glamour Puss.

A three year-old daughter of champion sire O'Reilly, she cruised home to win over 1109 metres by a couple of lengths as favourite.

Simply You is the fifth winner from five to race from Glamour Puss, who is yet to produce a Black Type horse, but maybe this filly will be the one!
