First Stakes-Winner for Kingda Ka

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 22
Very few Australian thoroughbreds find themselves in India, but one that has is Flying Spur stallion Kingda Ka, who sired his first Indian stakes-winner over the weekend.

ZacharyZACHARY won the Group II 2 S A Poonawalla Multi Million over eight furlongs in Pune on Sunday in a decisive manner with the runner up five lengths adrift of the Kingda Ka gelding.

It was his second win in as many starts in the current season for his owner/breeder Khushroo Dhunjibhoy of Nanoli Stud Farm.

All being well the three year old will now be targeted for the Group 1 Nanoli Stud Pune Derby to be run on 12th October over 10 Furlongs.

Zachary (pictured at Nanoli Stud as a two year-old) continues the good run his sire is enjoying with his first crop of three year olds in India with Arion reporting he has 10 winners on the board from 25 runners.

Stakes-placed Booker Jones, also owned/bred by the same connections as Zachary, is another promising type for Kingd Ka and will take his chance in the Group III Mysore 2000 Guineas next Sunday.

Formerly trained by Gai Waterhouse, Kingda Ka was sold to India in a deal that was brokered by James Harron Bloodstock and Gaurav Rampal of Scintilla Bloodstock.

A Group I placed son of Flying Spur, he is the first Australian bred stallion to stand in India.

Kingda Ka has since been well patronized by the stud's owner Khushroo Dhunjibhoy upon his retirement to the stallion ranks in 2010 and he will be hoping more of his offspring can do what Zachary has done.
