Another week and another Danehill-line mare winner for Duporth.
Given a great ride by jockey Jamie Kah, Duporth 3yo Mister Rockstar scored as the $1.40 favourite in emphatic style when beating older horses in the 1200m maiden race at Strathalbyn on Wednesday.
The only 3yo in the field, it was just the second start for the David Jolly trained gelding, who ran 2ndon debut at Morphettville ten days ago. Today was likely a kill for Mister Rockstar who clearly has bigger races in mind.
He is the ninth winner for Duporth and the sixth winner for Duporth that is bred on a Danehill-line cross.
Mister Rockstar is the first foal for the winning Rock of Gibraltar (Danehill) mare Molly Rocks and highlights further the great affinity that Duporth progeny is proving to have with Danehill-line mares.
Two of Duporth's three Stakes performers, Cornrow and Two Over One, are out of Danehill-line mares. They join other Duporth winners Mamaroochy, Advertencia, Penzance, Backdrop, and Mister Rockstar – who are also all out of Danehill-line mares - delivering a winners to runners outcome to-date for Danehill-line mares that must surely be alerting breeders of an exciting emerging click.
Of the Danehill-line mares in question, 3 are by Flying Spur, 1 is by Exceed and Excel, 1 is by Danehill, 1 is by Danzero, 1 is by Rock of Gibraltar, and 1 is by Catbird.
Duporth is not unique in being completely free of Northern Dancer in his pedigree, but the fact he is proving to have a great affinity with Northern Dancer's grandson Danehill is very exciting news for Australian breeders.
Ironically the talented, G1 placed Cornrow, Duporth x Baby Corn (Exceed and Excel) now sets his sights on Saturday's, you guessed it, Danehill Stakes at Flemington.
