First Group Winner for Showcasing

Media Release - Monday September 1
The juggernaut that is the first crop of Showcasing (GB) (Oasis Dream) has continued over the weekend with standout performer Cappella Sansevero (GB) (Showcasing) an impressive winner of the Group Three Round Tower Stakes at The Curragh.

After a last-start third in the Group One Phoenix Stakes, the Qatar Racing-owned Cappella Sansevero was piloted for the first time by Andrea Atenzi who will take over in 2015 as the retained rider for Qatar Racing.

ShowcasingSettling the colt toward the rear of the field – a change to his usual racing pattern – when the gap appeared in the run home, Cappella Sansevero was quick to take it and finished strongly for a three-quarters of a length win.

The first of Showcasing's freshman crop to earn stakes success, Cappella Sansevero has been the flag bearer for his sire and aside from Saturday's Group Three win, he was runner-up in the Group Two Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and, a close third in the Group One Phoenix Stakes on the 10th of August.

Cappella Sansevero is joined by Group Three-performer Toocoolforschool (GB) (Showcasing) and stakes performed filly Avenue Montaigne on Showcasing's blacktype honours board.

The leading First Season Sire of Great Britain and Ireland by earnings, Showcasing has 17 winners from 41 runners to date and sits second by number of winners. He has 14 two-year-olds rated 80 or better and 83% of his runners have either won or been placed.

Two-year-old filly Zuma Beach also added to Showcasing's first crop tally on Saturday with a comfortable win in France taking his total number of winners in Europe to 18.

Haunui Farm's Managing Director, Mark Chitty says, "If he can keep getting results like this every weekend, I'll be more than happy! It is just great to see Showcasing's early momentum continue as the flat racing season has progressed and he has almost ticked all the boxes. The ultimate result would be a Group One-winner in his first crop and it sounds as though Cappella Sansevero will get his chance in the Middle Park Stakes in October."

Showcasing stands at Haunui Farm in 2014 for a fee of $7,500 + GST.
