A fundraiser this Sunday will see the New Zealand racing community pull together for jockey Thomas Russell, who suffered a severe neck injury from a fall in June.
Russell, 31, sustained serious spinal injuries following a seemingly innocuous fall in Bulls on June 19.
Trainer Raymond Connors, whom Russell was riding for, was alongside the jockey when the fall occurred at Connors' property.
Switching from a trot to a canter, Connors saw Russell's mount drop its head and fire him over the top.
This Sunday on August 24, a fundraiser will be held for Russell at the Clubhouse Café and Sports Bar on Taylor Street, Cambridge Raceway where a range of items will be auctioned.
Among the items are a framed photograph of champion sire Zabeel, a service to Group I Australian Guineas winner Ferlax and 100 day agistment package at Hanui Farm, and a mounted gold-plated horse shoe worn by champion mare Sunline in the 2000 Group I Cox Plate.
Entry is $5 and doors open at 4pm with the main auction to commence at 6:45pm.
