The long wait has proven worthwhile with the Gai Waterhouse trained gelding finally
unleashing his ability with a commanding three length victory in the 1100 metre
maiden at Randwick on Wednesday.The Gooree Stud homebred missed the start for Tommy Berry, but recovered quickly and looks a bright prospect for spring.
"He's always shown a lot of ability at home and Gai's taken her time with him," said Berry.
"We just wanted to come see him do it on raceday and he's done that now.
"He still got a little bit lost over the last furlong, so he's got more left in the tank and is still a bit of a baby."
Gooree Stud bred and raced Dreamscape, who was a Group II winning sprinter for the Waterhouse stable, and have supported the son of Choisir since his retirement to Widden Stud.
Himpapawid is a half-brother to Group III winning juvenile Shared Reflections and is from the Hurricane Sky mare Ulap, a half-sister to stakes-winner Jolanda.
Gooree will be particularly pleased with the win of Himpapawid as his dam Ulap was one of 78 mares covered last spring by Dreamscape, who will have a runner in the Group III ATC San Domenico stakes on Saturday with the brilliantly fast Bugatty an acceptor.
Dreamscape stands at a fee of $6,600.
