It was the third consecutive win for Thiamandi but few punters were cheering. The long odds-on shot Lord Of The Sky and second favourite Le Bonsir began to retreat shortly after turning for home allowing Michael Rodd to pounce on Thiamandi who came away to win by two lengths from Gig (Commands) with Nearest The Pin (Golden Lake) a neck back in third.
It takes the overall record of Thiamandi to 6 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 17 starts for earnings of $312,310.
From the first southern hemisphere crop by Street Boss (USA), Thiamandi becomes the first Australian stakes-winner for the son of Street Cry (IRE).
A two-time veteran of the sales ring, Thiamandi was an $11,000 purchase as a weanling before making a $1,000 less at the 2012 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling sale.
A half-sister to the stakes-placed Gonski Girl (Gonski), Thiamandi is the sixth foal of the Woodborough mare Country Class who was a 3-time winner and Group III placed in New Zealand.
Country Class has a yearling filly by Reset however her filly foal by Host (ARG) died shortly after birth and she was not covered last year.
Dual Grade 1 winner Street Boss (USA) (pictured) is compiling an impressive strike rate with his first two crops and he is proving popular with breeders in Victoria.
Last season he covered 109 mares at Darley's Northwood Park at a fee of $11,000 and he will cover for the same fee for the forthcoming season.
